Strategic employee onboarding (Presented by Jeremy York | Synergy)
Employee onboarding—what does it really mean? Traditionally, it has been referred to new-employee orientation and has encompassed completing new-hire paperwork, reviewing benefits, and other tactical events. However, onboarding surpasses basic employee orientation and takes a forward-thinking, semi-strategic approach: • To review basic legal and policy-related information; acclimate employees to company processes as they related to these areas. • To equip new hires with the knowledge, skills, tools, and training necessary to be successful in their new positions; review company values, behaviors, and performance objectives. • To introduce company culture and organizational norms; immerse new hires into the organization’s personality. • To establish a solid employee relationship by welcoming new hires and creating an environment of mutual trust and respect; minimize the amount of time it takes new hires to fully contribute to their workgroups. In this session, participants will learn four essential components of an effective employee onboarding program endorsed by SHRM: 1) Compliance2) Clarification3) Culture4) Connection Discussions will cover the short-term effects (i.e., new employee adjustment) and the long-term effects (i.e., attitudes and behaviors) of onboarding. Participants will be taught how to utilize new tools and provide coaching to support onboarding. About Jeremy YorkJeremy has over15 years' experience in human resource strategy and operations. Holding various HR leadership roles, he has worked with and advised all levels of management on critical business and people-related issues. These items include HR strategy, performance management, strategic planning, talent management, etc. He is Director-Elect of Indiana State Council of SHRM and the past president of IndySHRM.
