Panelists: Kofi Darku, Marina Hadjioannou Waters, Tom Butera, Katey Humphries  Topic: Embracing our Immigrant and Refugee Communities in our Workforce Indiana has one of the fastest growing immigrant and refugee populations in the country. If your organization is not learning how to tap into and embrace the potential of these resilient and hardworking community members, you are missing out on a huge opportunity in your workforce development initiatives. Join us for this panel of professionals who are engaging in workforce development work directly with immigrant and refugee communities to discuss  1) the value this talent pool brings to the table,  2) the obstacles they may be facing to finding meaningful employment and professional development, and  3) some specific actions that employers can take to make their opportunities more accessible to and inclusive of this population.   Meet Our Panelists: Kofi Darku (he/him) Kofi has more than 15 years experience in education, primarily in an early childhood, coupled with a few years of leading workforce development efforts. He has worked extensively along the I-65 corridor with the majority of his time spent in Louisville and Indianapolis. Marina Hadjioannou Waters (she/hers), President, LUNA Language Services  Marina has dedicated 20 years of her career and academic interests advocating for the civil, political and cultural rights of communities facing discrimination. In her role as President of LUNA, Marina oversees the growth of the company by managing contracts and establishing outreach programs with community partners. She provides Title VI consulting to clients and the community, as well as speaks publicly on the important topics of nondiscrimination, multiculturalism, and corporate social responsibility. Tom Butera (he/him), Plant Manager, Schutz Container Systems With over 35 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, Tom Butera is a results-driven, Multi-Operations Leader with global manufacturing, business and continuous improvement leadership experience. Over his career, he has worked with multiple cultures, businesses, schools and government agencies across a broad range of markets, products and processes. Tom is an accomplished professional who has earned a reputation of always doing what is right, with a solid understanding of what is needed to implement corrective/preventative actions to improve safety, quality, customer satisfaction, productivity and profitability opportunities.  Katey Humphries (she/hers), Employment and Human Trafficking Case Manager, Exodus Refugee Immigration Katey started out with Exodus Refugee Immigration as an AmeriCorps member nearly five years ago and has been in her current position for nearly three years. She serves as an Employment Specialist and Case Manager for Refugees, Asylees, and Survivors of Human Trafficking. Katey strives to provide all clients with client-centered, trauma-informed services as she connects them to community resources and assists them in navigating the employment process.
