DAYLIGHT: SEASON TWO // INCLUSIVE DESIGN People for Urban Progress and Exhibit Columbus present DAYLIGHT: Season Two, a four-part monthly series that brings together national and local thought leaders around the topic of inclusive design. In our second season, we will have authentic conversations on the realities of equity, dignity, and justice to define thoughtful and responsible design for our city.  MARCH: INCLUSION In collaboration with the Indianapolis Section of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), our first event will focus on inclusion. Everyone deserves good design. An inclusive process and project require we move beyond community engagement towards participatory design. How do we make sure all voices are incorporated in an authentic way? We will dive into this topic with Jha D Williams, spoken word artist and Senior Associate at MASS Design Group and Danicia Malone, artist and Programs and Facilities Manager at the Black Cultural Center at Purdue University.  5:30pm: Refreshments, networking, entertainment by Limelight 6:00pm: DAYLIGHT Conversation commences 6:45pm: Community discussion About Jha D Williams:   Born and raised in Boston, MA, Jha D Williams received her B.S. in Architecture from Northeastern University, taught for two years at the Boston Architectural College, and then pursued her M. Arch I at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, she returned to her home city to continue curating and co-hosting her monthly open mic, 'if you can Feel it, you can Speak it' Open Mic Movement, and began working at Sasaki Associates, Inc. As a spoken word artist and event organizer, Jha D exclaims that there is pure art is speaking your own truth, and is dedicated to creating spaces for artists, particularly those that are of the LGTBQIA communities of color. As a designer, she urges that design and the built environment are vehicles for equity, justice and social change. In February of 2018, she joined the non-profit organization MASS Design Group where she currently works as a Senior Associate.  About Danicia Malone: Danicia Malone serves as BCC Program and Facility Manager. She is an arts & culture ambassador and urban planner pursuing her PhD on the User-Experience of Race. Her research is focuses on the context of Race & Space – Growing Critical Cultural Capacity in the Built Environment. As a Next City Vanguard Fellow and Intercultural Competency Facilitator, she challenges the ideas of public space and place-making to encourage a people-centric status quo. Danicia holds a Bachelor in Urban Planning and Spanish from Ball State University & a Masters in Nonprofit Management with a focus on global relations and sustainability from Indiana University. As a creative director, interaction designer and urban planner based in the Midwest she spearheaded projects in Monteverde, CR, Dallas, TX and New Orleans, LA. About Exhibit Columbus: Exhibit Columbus seeks to celebrate Columbus’ design heritage while making it relevant to new audiences. Exhibit Columbus is the signature project of Landmark Columbus, which was created in 2015 to “care for the design heritage of Columbus and inspire communities to invest in the traditions and values that use architecture, art, and design to improve people’s lives and make cities stronger.” Landmark Columbus is a program of Heritage Fund – The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County.
