Bloomington Pie Contest

Sunday, November 3, 2019, 10:00 PM

WELCOME to the first Bloomington Pie Contest! Enter your pie in the contest for a chance to win some prizes, or join us at the event to taste delicious pies made by our community. Even better, all proceeds will be donated to Community Kitchen of Monroe County. WEBSITE: www.bloomingtonpie.com DETAILS:  The contest will begin at 2pm on Sunday, November 3rd at Dimension Mill in downtown Bloomington, IN. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Community Kitchen of Monroe County, a nonprofit that aims to work, alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas through direct service, education, and advocacy. Judging will take place from 2-2:30pm, followed by an award ceremony and plenty of pie eating!  Guests who do not have a pie to enter can still join in on the fun and taste some of the pies. Guests can reserve a ticket in advance for $10 via this page or can donate $10 at the door. Guests may arrive anytime. Pie eating begins around 2pm. Guests will also be able to vote for their favorite pie to contribute to the People's Choice category. Winners will be announced between 3-3:30pm. WHAT'S A PIE?: Well, it’s delicious. It has a bottom crust, a filling, and sometimes a top crust. It can be baked, but doesn’t have to be. It is homemade. A tart isn’t really a pie, but we’ll let that slide. And pizza, also isn’t a pie, despite what they say - we won’t let that one slide though. HOW TO ENTER YOUR PIE(S): You can register for the contest here. Entrants are required to register by Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:59PM and must bring two pies (of the same design). One pie will be reserved for the official tasting and the other will be shared by event attendees. Judges will begin scoring at 2pm and will score each pie based on the following attributes: flavor, crust, filling, and overall presentation and creativity. Pies will be assigned a number and presented anonymously. Note - All entrants must arrive with their two pies between 1:30-2pm in order to qualify for the 2pm judgement. If you plan to stay through judging and the awards, then you can plan to take your pie dishes home and don't need to use a disposable dish.  CATEGORIES: Best Sweet Pie: Includes fruit pies, cream pies, nut pies, chocolate pies - anything your sweet tooth desires! Best Savory Pie: Includes meat or vegetable pies. Best Gluten-Free Pie: Includes any pie that is GF - both sweet & savory! People’s Choice: Get your fan club together, because each event attendee has the chance to vote for their favorite pie. Youth Contest: Exclusively for pie entrants age 13 and under. PRIZES: We’ll announce the prizes soon! FAQ: Can I submit more than one pie? Yes! You can definitely submit more than one pie. However, if you do so, each pie needs to be registered separately. So if you plan to participate in two categories, then you will be asked to pay two registration fees (one for each type of pie). Where is the event located? The event location is Dimension Mill (642 N Madison St, Bloomington, IN 47404) in the event and gallery space.  How do I enter? You can register for the contest here, on this page, by Friday, November 1st at 11:59PM. Who is the contest organizer and how do I contact them? Rachel Glago is the organizer and you can contact her at bloomingtonpie@gmail.com.
